Saltwater Cycle: Power By Paddling
Saltwater Cycle kicked off this summer in Charleston with their maiden voyage on Shem Creek, and I got to be on it!
So what is Saltwater Cycle, you ask? Think of it as a paddleboat that you power by cycling. The boat has ten cycling seats with room for up to 16 guests. Each tour is two hours with an hour and 45 minutes on the water. Plenty of time to cruise the waters and check out a different view of Charleston. Those that may want a break can lounge on the cushioned spots up front. The boat has speakers with Bluetooth capability, so make a playlist or enjoy the captain’s music. Each seat has a cup holder for your drink, so pack a cooler because Saltwater Cycle is a BYO (bring your own) beverage and snacks. I would recommend bringing a small picnic with some beer and wine. Eat, drink, cycle and enjoy beautiful Charleston from the water.
Saltwater Cycle offers a public (pay-per-seat) or private tour. How fun would it be to book this for a bridal shower, birthday or company gathering? Need longer than two hours? They will accommodate based on availability. Don’t have 16 people? No problem! Book a couple seats on a public tour.
If you're wondering about shoes, you can check out in the photos below that everyone wore everything - except heels. The only restriction really is to wear shoes.
Tours are Monday through Thursday at 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. On Friday and Sunday, there are six tours a day with the first tour beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Fun Fact: The boat's electronics are powered by solar panels on the roof!
#MyPleasantCity Tip: The Friday, Saturday and Sunday tours at 9:00 a.m. are family-friendly, so get the kids covered up with sunscreen and hit the water to make memories!
